I can recall Patrick Jane having a tea-break in many (most?) of the episodes that I've watched.

I suspect that in many (most?) cases it's a tactical move, nevertheless I think that he really enjoyed his cup.

  1. Did Mr. Jane ever discuss the particular brand(s) he most enjoys?
  2. I don't recall a tea bag shown in sufficient detail to think "product-placement", but I may be wrong…

On another note, not related to product placement: Had Jane tea bags in his pockets as a matter of habitude?

  • It could just be an homage to Hercules Poirot, the Agatha Christie character who loved to drink herbal tea.

Jane appears to prefer Lapsang souchong and orders it by name when he's in restaurants where a choice of teas are on offer.

Jane: Could I get a pot of your Lapsang Souchong, and...?

3x24 - Strawberries & Cream

and

Jane: Lapsang Souchong. I think you're gonna like it.

4x11 - Always Bet on Red

On specific occasions he asks for chamomile, to soothe his throat.

Jane: Um, could you get me some chamomile tea for my throat?

5x07 - If It Bleeds, It Leads

To calm an angry client.

Jane: Chamomile tea — excellent for repressed anger.

3x15 - Red Gold

He seems to prefer chamomile over mint.

Susie: Would you like chamomile or mint?

Jane: Chamomile, please.

5x11 - Days of Wine & Roses

In his own home we we see him making (and drinking) what appears to be Lipton brand tea in the show's pilot episode. It's not possible to discern the specific blend from this distance.
