Why did so many 30s movies feature posh upper class characters?
I do think this is probably part of it - but there's not a lot of source for what you write here other than 'it makes sense'. Are there any other factors too?

Also (and this is why examples may be good) are these 'screwball comedies' lampooning the posh / rich characters? Or are they protagonists?

I'm sure there was plenty of a middle class even during the depression - by which I mean the people identify with the middle class, even if many of the jobs didn't exist and they were forced to take whatever work was available.

It might help if you gave some examples. I think this is an interesting question if people take the time to research an answer. I suspect it might partially come from the fact that before movies there was only live theater, a medium that is expensive as a consumer and people often want to see 'themselves' represented on the stage - and I'm sure a lot of screenwriting at the time was done by playwrights (or aspiring playwrights). I imagine that there is a bit of inertia here.

Why does Sherlock (BBC) use miles?
I'm not disagreeing with you - no-one in the UK is measuring their fence in yards, but road signs being something that are not routinely updated are often in yards.

Why does Sherlock (BBC) use miles?
"there are lies, damn lies and statistics": books.google.com/ngrams/… (switched to British English). Living in the USA I note that literally no-one uses yards here, and road signs will say 1000 ft which I find quite odd.

@Valorum to be fair when talking about travel, road signs are often (always?) yards if they mention distances not using miles. Heights (under a bridge) will nowadays be in metres not just feet though. A lot of people would say "about a hundred yards", not "about 300 feet", but they are also not likely to say "a quarter of a mile" not "440 yards". Just goes to show how complex the British use of units are.

How long is a cycle in the Alien universe?
Unfortunately while well written, this does not provide an answer to the question itself. I can tell from the question that the OP knew that a cycle was a term to define time and perhaps why it was being used and not year but they are asking how much time. If the question was 'why do they use the term cycle ...' then this would be a great answer.

They may use cycle to mean a local year - and year to mean a standard earth year.

What does "find your line" mean?
Agreed, Using fly to mean escape is a bit of a poetical use of the word - it much more common for it to mean to move fast, or literally to be travelling through the air.

What was the point of all those TV screens at the Architect’s office?
The question may be getting downvotes because it might be considered a bit brief or likely to result in answers that are opinions - however I don't see why someone could not propose some analysis on the purpose of the screens in the office.

Welcome to the site. The edit someone made to your post made conform to our typical format here on the site. We don't typically include the movie name in the title (that's what the tag is for). Please don't just automatically roll back to your original version.

Why didn't Walter White choose to work at Gray Matter instead of becoming a drug lord in Breaking Bad?
Yes, he has blood on his hands already - Krazy 8 and Emilio which stems back to the first episode - but the offer from Grey Matter was only Episode 5 of the show. I would not say he was "accomplished". He's only just gone to an Oncologist to find out about treatment for his cancer, this is only a few days into the story.

No, I feel like this has most of the points I would make, just remove that one point. Its still true that their offer is about the treatment and that he still holds a grudge.
