It does evolve toward something different but you'll have to watch it to decide for yourself whether it provides satisfying answers. The series' ending has troubled a lot of people. It took me quite a while to come to terms with it myself. But I do love this show.

That'd be my advice too. Also, watch TV series with the English subtitles on, so you have the time to get used to the characters' mannerisms and speech patterns.

Seconded. This is required as the language barrier is a plot point later on but the audience wouldn't tolerate viewing most of the movie with subtitles.
