In the movie If I Stay, Mia got in an accident with hr family. Her parents died. Her younger brother died in hospital. Mia was in coma. We saw her consciousness(may be, I'm confused) going through stages of her life. She was searching that she should stay alive or not. At the end we saw she decides to stay.

Problem is how she knew that her parents are dead & brother died in that hospital. She was in coma. I'm guessing somehow she heard on the accident spot that her mom died immediately. But how she came to know that her father and brother died? She was in bed, how she came to know that her brother is dead. There is no indication in the movie that her brother's death news was shared beside her. So there is no way that she know about her brother. So was that Mia's ghost that was exploring in the hospital and heard these news? Or that's her soul or as I'm thinking that's her consciousness and somehow came to know about those deaths?

What did the writer mean? Did I miss something?
