I am extremely amazed by how some tv-series like Lost is able to do future flashforwards that will only show in later seasons and astounded by how some minor details are planted in earlier seasons and only revealed in the final season.

Are these series fully-written in detail when they plan their first pilot and/or filmed way ahead (by seasons) before their premiere?

  • I'm sure there's some future planning involved, but there's also probably healthy dose of remembering what you wrote about the future four seasons ago and working it in to what you're writing now. Lost, for example, took a pretty heavy left turn at the beginning of season 4, and I'm pretty sure that's where all their pre-planning went out the window. – Steve-O Nov 26 '18 at 14:40
