Who are the two persons Erik Selvig is referring to in Thor (2011) in the scene where he is talking to Jane foster after SHIELD took their research.

The assumption by most, of course, is that the first one he was referring to was Bruce Banner. However, while no further mention is made of Erik's other colleague in the final film, the original script reveals the identity to be Dr. Pym (presumably Hank Pym, the original Ant-Man).

JANE

(TO DARCY) Will you please stop talking about your iPod?!

(TO SELVIG) Who are these people?

SELVIG

No one knows much about them. But I knew a scientist -- a pioneer in gamma radiation. SHIELD showed up, and he was never heard from again.

JANE

I'm not going to let them do this. I'm getting everything back.

SELVIG

Please, let me contact one of my colleagues. Dr. Pym has had some dealings with these people. I'll e- mail him and see if he can help.

DARCY

They took your laptop, too.

  • Even with that quote it's not really clear if that line is actually referring to the scientist mentioned in the previous line. It sounds more like he's contacting Dr. Pym as kind of a mediator between him and SHIELD, thinking that he has good contacts to SHIELD. But the gamma radiation guy in the previous line apparently just disappeared from the academic landscape rather than working together well with SHIELD. All in all the second line sounds terribly redundant if it is really referring to the same guy as the first line. – Napoleon Wilson Mar 22 '18 at 12:59

Not sure why you think the two lines are referring to the same person. It's pretty clear that they're not. – phantom42 Mar 22 '18 at 13:25
  • Oh, I thought that was what the answer was implying. I must have misunderstood the answer then. I guess I didn't exactly know which "two persons" the question was even asking about, but looking at the transcript of the actual film cleared that up. – Napoleon Wilson Mar 22 '18 at 16:52
