Sure we have androids like Data and Lore. We also have self driving/autonomous flying garbage trucks. We even have entire cybernetic races like the Borg and even nano bots.

But in all the movies and TV shows there just do not seem to be many human scale robots. I can remember one episode of TNG where there were a set of toaster sized robotic miners that gained sentience, but other than that not much else.

I find this interesting because in most other science fiction universes with comparable level of development, robots are common if not prevalent. Even in non science fiction worlds and our own reality robots are not uncommon.

I guess what I am kind of asking is why did we never see Kirk trip over a Roomba?
