But when being rude, he intentionally sacrifices that persona, because trying to keep it up would risk innocent lives (and that's something Bruce cannot bring himself to). | |

The tactic could have been easily countered by Ra's having some of his henchmen fake leaving the party. The point of them staying where they are is simply to show to the viewer that they had already infiltrated the party and were in position. Bruce simply made it so that Ra's would be unable to stop the crowd from leaving without creating a chaos. And if they created that chaos, Bruce would be able to use that to his tactical benefit. | |

As he builds the Batman image, he also builds a Bruce Wayne image but it's very clear from his conversations with Alfred and Rachel throughout the movie that Batman is his true persona. Apart from that, though, this answer is spot-on. | |

Only those that have arrived with Ra's stand where they were, and appear unaffected by his words. It was a tactic to pull them from hiding in the crowd, and assess the threats in his environment. | |
