Sep 12, 2020 at 23:37 comment added Three Diag I can't answer anymore, and I only base my answer on Yr he first movie, but I have a radically different interpretation. Machine have a hard coded directive to serve human. In their distorted way, they do so by keeping them in the matrix, the only world that makes them "happy".
Aug 20, 2020 at 14:48 comment added CyberClaw The machines are not using humans for energy. That's what Morpheus tells Neo, and probably what he believes, doesn't mean it's the truth. In the original script, and one of the original comics, machines were using humans minds for p2p computation. It'd explain why hackers can hack with their minds (they are actually just a p2p node sending corrupted data). Explaining p2p computing to the audience is not as visually entertaining as showing a duracell battery though, and certainly not as lucrative.
