Sounds to me like they do have a visitor log but nobody put their real names on it, either using fake id or no id required.

Jan 27, 2014 at 1:03 comment added Mistah Mix Your visitors also needed to be "checked out" before they can visit you in prison. You simply can't walk up to the gate and state that you want to visit someone. There's extensive documentation involved.
