comment Why does 'The Wolf of Wall Street' contain so many nude scenes?
@Catija I've not close-voted this as I'm unsure, I just don't think it's a worthwhile question in its current form as the OP has a stance that this kind of film had gratuitous violence/sex/drugs/swearing and I think that it's difficult to justify to the OP as my viewpoint is polar opposite and I just don't understand why someone would choose to watch something that isn't their cup of tea, like I said some time ago, you choose what to watch, this is entertainment and nothing more

It would be a more interesting question to ask if Scorcese is a misogynist or if he glamourises violence

@Catija that is an interesting topic but I don't personally like such opinion questions myself and i do think that the impact on the viewer is entirely subjective, for instance I've seen far worse shocking scenes in films (Darth Vader's Calculon style Nooooooo in revenge of the sith) than those in this film but I wouldn't think that asking whether this is 1) shocking or not 2) was a marketing ploy or not 3) was a gimmick or not from the director. To me it's irrelevant, I either like a film/scene or I don't.

@NapoleonWilson sure I know that about question validity but I'm not an expert on this particular site with respect to whether these type of questions are on-topic or not, although I've added quite a number of comments here, I didn't want to post an answer to a question that I feel is a little flawed IMO, still its good to talk I think to express many opinions

comment Why does 'The Wolf of Wall Street' contain so many nude scenes?
@NapoleonWilson I'm not a mod so I don't know if this question is on-topic or not but it feels to me an unnecessary question as it appears to be based on the OP's feelings towards the usage of nudity and strong language in this film when 1) it's a scorcese film 2) it's an adult (18 rating in the UK) rated film 3) the trailer gives a clue as to what this film will be about 4) one could argue that everything is unnecessary when it boils down to it so it becomes an opinion based question are my thoughts

@NapoleonWilson I agree with the first comment, the film portrays a person's life from their perspective which had excesses of every extreme, I don't see how this could be avoided given that dwarf tossing/copious drug taking/strong language is not a normal aspect of most people's lives.

Seeing that this work like most works is there to make money or tell a story it doesn't necessarily have to appeal to everyone. You can choose not to see it, just as much as I choose not to watch talent shows or reality shows as I think they're pure drivel. It's not up to the viewer to determine whether the content is justified or necessary, it's the job of the director/editor/studio that releases the movie. The film was aimed at adults, adults can decided what they want to pay to see or not

I seem to recall being able to clearly see Nicole Kidman's contact lenses in the civil war film Cold Mountain, didn't half put me off like...

I'm wondering if there is another reason rather than just geographical, i.e. is midtown dangerous, crooked, not to be trusted, somehow alien is what I'm asking, will edit into the question
