comment Why do professional green screens look so much better?
@GiantCowFilms: Considering how much trouble it is to isolate fringe artifacts in live action motion, it is certainly mostly the masking work.

comment Why do professional green screens look so much better?
@DA.: The number I remember was a range topping out at $100K of post production cost just to handle the green screen processing. This was around 2005. I would not be surprised if the cost has come down as software and techniques have improved.

comment Why didn't silent movies have subtitles?
Heck, they could have written the text on a board and held that at the bottom of the frame. That is most similar to what they did in early silent film by showing a full screen text board ("inter-title") for 7 to 10 seconds.

comment Why does the desert facility explode?
@JohnSmithOptional: Well, every time Bond shoots at anything mechanical, it almost always does blow up. Knowing that, why wouldn't he shoot at it?

comment Why does the desert facility explode?
@matt_black: Well, bad guys flaunt the laws and must bribe police and mechanical inspectors to not hassle them. Otherwise they would not be able to conduct their evil business. In creating a large facility, building it to be safe costs a lot of extra time and money compared to a minimal facility, so if you don't have to pass design and reviews and inspections, presumably the final result will be dangerous.

I don't recall any US mainstream films set in Colombia. Maybe you mean Cali as an abbreviation for California?
