Even if he did get that law degree, if he were found out, he would still be under the same amount of scrutiny. If he's found out, he's done, wether he has a degree at the moment or not. So there's no point in jeopardizing his career (by people noticing him being unavailable at late hours for some impromptu work, or him being sleepy in the morning) and risking people finding out for a degree that's ultimately irrelevant.
