The image you posted (above top) actually shows Lloyd Bridges, but in those weird alien sunglasses he's practically unrecognisable!

Thank you Mary, this is indeed the movie I was looking for. I remember seeing it regularly on tv in the Seventies, but had forgotten it starred Lloyd Bridges and Angie Dickinson. She turns out not to be a robot (funny how memory plays tricks); the scanner which the aliens use simply only detects male aliens! I would never have recognised this picture from its title alone - it sounds more like a sequel to 'The Love Bug' than a SciFi movie.
