comment How much does a staff writer make on a TV show?
@Catija Wow, had no idea it was so structured. I assumed everything was negotiated on an individual basis (which, as a contract programmer, is the way it works in my profession).

@wbogacz "automated is not equivalent to automatic" Actually, the first entry in Collins Thesaurus for automated is automatic.

comment How does ADR work?
@wbogacz But I can see how it could be automated; as you were suggesting. A computer could input the original dialogue from the soundtrack, separate out the words (if our smart phones can do that, an expensive computer should do an even better job); then repeat for the words spoken by the actor and line them up by stretching or reducing a little of the time between the actor's words. Come on Hollywood, not that difficult.

comment How do they shoot live commentary in reality shows?
Agree with the huge amount of editing. Years ago my wife and I participated in a half-hour reality show that was filmed over three days. They shot 18 hours of video which was edited down to 22 minutes of air-time footage (Some people get 15 minutes fame; we got 22.)

comment Legality of using fake license plates in movies
@his I was think more along the lines of when a car is filmed from a helicopter and shown driving down a highway in regular traffic, where the road would not be closed..

@JohnnyBones I don't think they flew a bus into a building either -- that was done using a crane, as in the photo I included in my question. But apparently everything else was real, except for the landing on the rooftop which was filmed on a backlot as you suggest -- see my answer below.
