"To avoid criticism do nothing, say nothing, be nothing.."
(Elbert Hubbard)
I studied Physics at the University of Vienna, but I'm interested in all natural sciences.
Since I don't believe in life after death I try to explore and learn as much as I can about this world.

Lost purgatory theory If the purgatory theory was true then it shouldn't matter if one got pregnant off-island, because once you are dead you can no longer create new life/give birth. Or how else does the purgatory-theory explain the pregnancy problem? - Plus, there here was no pregnancy problem before "The Incident" (the Swan station drilling accident in 1977). - Richard actually asked for eternal life (though it wasn't his first wish), but at the end, after Jacob had died, he became mortal again |

Lost purgatory theory Claire and Amy gave birth on the island, Sun conceived while on the island. - The dead people who occasionally showed up where most likely Smokey/MIB. - Richard didn't age because he was granted eternal life by Jacob. |

Lost purgatory theory Aside from the showrunners repeatedly saying the island is not purgatory, how would you explain Jack, Kate, Sun,... getting off the island in Season 5? Did they return from the dead? And what were the Flash-Sideways in Season 6? Purgatory's purgatory? |

Why do TV comedy programs have laugh tracks? @ChristianRau - My point was that it seems like nowadays comedies don't add laugh tracks anymore. So the question why do they still add a laugh track? might actually be outdated. - Today it looks like only shows that are taped in front of a live studio audience have laugh tracks. But the reason for having a live audience isn't to generate a laugh track, at least not solely. One other reason is e.g. jokes can be changed on the spot when they don't get a laugh. The immediate feedback of a live audience can help improve the show. |

Why do TV comedy programs have laugh tracks? Does anyone know a current show, other than How I Met Your Mother, that uses a laugh track even though it's not filmed in front of live studio audience? At the moment I can't think of one. |

Why do TV comedy programs have laugh tracks? I would content that the psychology aspect is as clear cut as you say. Otherwise it would be a no-brainer to add a laugh track to every comedy show. - There are, and have been, quite a few highly rated shows that didn't use a laugh track, and canceled shows that had a laugh track. It seems that if a show is good people will watch it wether it has a laugh track or not, if a show is bad, a laugh track ain't gonna save it. I think today a laugh track has little effect on ratings. |

Why do TV comedy programs have laugh tracks? New York Magazine article Please Chuckle Here - The return of the sitcom laugh track: If the show’s funny, a laugh track doesn’t make any difference. If it’s not, the [laugh track] may help. |

Were they goblins or orcs? @poepje - continued: A clear illustration that Tolkien considered goblins and orcs to be the same thing... is that in "The Hobbit" Gandalf asks Thorin if he remembers "Azog the Goblin", while in all his other writings Tolkien describes Azog as a "great Orc." |

Were they goblins or orcs? @poepje - The LotR-Wiki also says the same: Tolkien explained in a note at the start of The Hobbit that he was using English to represent the languages used by the characters, and that goblin (or hobgoblin for the larger kind) was the English translation he was using for the word Orc |

How did the Paladins catch Jumpers before the discovery of electricity? It might be worth mentioning that the Paladins were created for the film, they are not in original book. |

Name of the Paladins' weapons? A more interesting question would be: How did the Paladins catch Jumpers before the invention of electricity (according to Griffin they have been catching Jumpers "since medieval times") |

In Sherlock: Study in Pink how does the choice of bottles work? Vizzini's 'logic' is not meant to be taken seriously (e.g. "the poison comes from Australia, and Australia is entirely people with criminals, ergo...), so I'm not sure how this tongue-in-cheek scene from The Princess Bride is supposed to explain what happens in 'Sherlock Holmes'. |
