comment Why the discrepancy between the sound levels of dialogue and music in older movies?
So, the sound engineers would have used a higher dynamic range to make the explosions and musical cues more jarring on the viewer? To give the scene a little more impact?

Does this mean that the cinematic releases of these (older) titles would have had dynamic ranges that are different to the versions presented on the home releases? Or where they released to theatres in a similar way? (as I was born in the mid-80s, I never saw these films with their original ranges at the theatres)

comment What is the real purpose of the star map in Prometheus?
My interpretation was that the star maps wheren't left by the Engineers, but drawn by the people that they visited. It's a staple of the "God was an alien" genre

comment In Prometheus, is Meredith Vickers a human or android?
@iandotkelly except that David is enamoured by the film Laurence of Arabia. An old film that contains old English language. Is it not possible that David is modelling even his language after his favourite character?

comment Why did the Engineer at the start of the movie drink the dark liquid?
@EvikJames what I took from this opening scene was that groups of Engineers go to any planet that can support life (as they see it) and perform this ritual. That being said, this could be Earth, or it could be another planet, millions of years ago or quite recently. Remember that the film is named after Prometheus, the Titan from Greek mythology who stole fire from the Gods and gave it to the humans. This could be allegorical for stealing life (from their creators/god(s)) and giving it to lower forms of life.

Also, "Love the one you're with" was a song by Stephen Stills - the person who had owned the accordion Janek was playing. It's entirely possible that he had the lyrics in mind, because he was playing the accordion that had once belonged to the singer of the song.

Is it not possible that the only surgery pod on the ship was set to male simply because old-man Wayland wanted the use of it, if he became ill before they reached LV-223? Seeing as it's his company that paid for the expedition, and that he had a secret agenda?

"Meredith's last name is Vickers, So there is no possibility that she's Weyland's daughter." So you've never met someone whose parents were never married? It's entirely possible that Meredith's mother (if she is human) was a fling that Weyland had, and that the mother kept Meredith from him until she died or Meredith was old enough to make her own decision.

Except that David doesn't call Meredith his mother, he uses the old English phrase "mum" which can be used is place of "mam" (which in turn is similar to the word "ma'am"). This single word could have the double meaning you refer to (as in, David could mean "mother" or "ma'am"), but I like to think that he's referring to Meredith as his superior, simply because she is.

comment Why does Christian Bale deform his voice when playing Batman
I seem to remember reading about this being a decision by someone at the studio. How true that is, though, I have no idea.

comment What does the origami represent in Blade Runner?
+1 For artificial creation of something representing life or dreams. I always thought that each of the origami creations reflected something that was happening in the scene where we (the viewer) get to see the end result of the creation. For instance, Gaff creates the match-stick man when Deckard is being briefed on the replicants at the precinct, and the uncorn is revealed at the end (of some versions of the film) when Deckard (in some interpretations) has the revelation that he is a replicant. That's my two cents, anyway
