Why did they change the location of Akira in the remake? "It worked because of the fact it was in Tokyo." I don't quite follow? Because it was made in Japan? Lots of Japanese films are set outside of Japan. Because it's set in Japan? Many dystopic films are set outside of Japan? Because it had a Japanese cast/crew? Same answer. Because it was a "Japanese" story? Well, it wasn't. |

Why was Kurosawa the first director to shoot the sun? My feeling is that it was a combination of the two. Think of how a celluloid camera operates, the image is (not literally) burnt onto the frame. The same way that non-digital stills cameras work. Since the sun is a HUGE ball of light (don't look directly at it, kids), there's a chance that it could overexpose the resulting frames. That's my thoughts on it, anyway (NOTE: I'M NOT A CAMERAMAN. NEITHER DO I KNOW A LOT ABOUT HOW CELLULOID FILM WORKS) |

How did the engineer enter the locked ship? "How did the Engineer enter the ship?" Was there not an explosion and the on-board computer system message telling Dr. Shaw that the hull had been breached? I can't remember this one too clearly, but I'm sure that there was. |

Why did Beth not run earlier? Also, it's her daughter's birthday, which means that there will be a party, which means that there will be plenty of people over. This can help in some situations due to safety in numbers. Having people over for her daughter's birthday party might cause William to reconsider his threat, as he would have to deal with an unknown number of other people. |

Why did Beth not run earlier? +1 for bullet points 2&3. Aside from what is said explicitly in the film (and it's been more than 10 years since I saw this one last), we never find out if William has ever threatened Elisabeth but failed to follow through - which might make her decision to stay until absolutely necessary easier for her. |

Why the discrepancy between the sound levels of dialogue and music in older movies? So, the sound engineers would have used a higher dynamic range to make the explosions and musical cues more jarring on the viewer? To give the scene a little more impact? |

Why the discrepancy between the sound levels of dialogue and music in older movies? Does this mean that the cinematic releases of these (older) titles would have had dynamic ranges that are different to the versions presented on the home releases? Or where they released to theatres in a similar way? (as I was born in the mid-80s, I never saw these films with their original ranges at the theatres) |

What is the real purpose of the star map in Prometheus? My interpretation was that the star maps wheren't left by the Engineers, but drawn by the people that they visited. It's a staple of the "God was an alien" genre |

In Prometheus, is Meredith Vickers a human or android? @iandotkelly except that David is enamoured by the film Laurence of Arabia. An old film that contains old English language. Is it not possible that David is modelling even his language after his favourite character? |

Why did the Engineer at the start of the movie drink the dark liquid? @EvikJames what I took from this opening scene was that groups of Engineers go to any planet that can support life (as they see it) and perform this ritual. That being said, this could be Earth, or it could be another planet, millions of years ago or quite recently. Remember that the film is named after Prometheus, the Titan from Greek mythology who stole fire from the Gods and gave it to the humans. This could be allegorical for stealing life (from their creators/god(s)) and giving it to lower forms of life. |

In Prometheus, is Meredith Vickers a human or android? Also, "Love the one you're with" was a song by Stephen Stills - the person who had owned the accordion Janek was playing. It's entirely possible that he had the lyrics in mind, because he was playing the accordion that had once belonged to the singer of the song. |

In Prometheus, is Meredith Vickers a human or android? Is it not possible that the only surgery pod on the ship was set to male simply because old-man Wayland wanted the use of it, if he became ill before they reached LV-223? Seeing as it's his company that paid for the expedition, and that he had a secret agenda? |
