The only clear thing is that the kid turned on the mothership. It is also not shown whether or not the kid actually controls the thing or if it's automatic, so I don't know what a good guess of that is.

Jun 11	comment	Why does Banner finally allow the Hulk to come out? Actually, I wrote this before reading other's justification for such, and therefore my opinion above doesn't apply any more: the 1st release was not voluntary, hence the lack of control; this is as opposed to the 2nd one.

Sounds like mere speculation to me, especially since on various occasions he appears like he hates the transformations, not to mention the fact that he tried to commit suicide, to avoid the risk of another transformation. He also appears to be a charitable person in the movie (i.e. living among the poor he appears to be helping, but my memory is foggy).
