There are scenes shown in the movie Pi which have ants and goo in the protagonist's apartment which also houses his computer Euclid. Is there any significance of these ants/goo?

The bleeding man in Pi (1997)
Who is the bleeding man at the train station? He is most likely just imagined, as is so many other things in the movie (e.g. the brain), but I can't imagine what it means.
