I am trying to find a movie for my father based on his description of a single scene. I hope you can help me. He's been trying to find this movie for years.

The scene is: the female lead is standing in a school hallway with coathooks lining either side. As she stands there, her bag comes sliding down the hallway towards her as we overhear (unseen) students in the classrooms reciting the 17 multiplication tables.

The only other thing he remembers is that the movie was black-and-white. He thought the movie was Farenheit 451, but the 1966 version does not contain the scene described above.

Please help! Thank you so much!

Despite your doubts, Fahrenheit 451 did seem to fit the bill for me, as I recalled a similar scene.

I did some digging around and found this site, which shows the scene as you describe it above (or very closely at least, complete with coat hooks and tables recitation).

Hope this helps.
