Movies & TV Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for movie and tv enthusiasts. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm looking for the title of a movie I've seen in the 80s or early 90s. But all I remember of it are the following sequences:

  • There was some sort of laser beam or beacon at night.
  • A man and a colleague are investigating something.
  • They are at the man's house where there is also his wife and child.
  • There was a van in the movie.
  • The man and some colleague were on a stakeout in the van.
  • The man gets killed by some bad guys.
  • I'm not sure but I think the bad guys get into the man's house and he manages to hide his wife and child somewhere in the house.
  • Later on, the wife and the child are seen on a lawn in a park.
  • The wife plays some audio tape, expecting music on it, but then there is some recording made by the late husband.

That's about it. Those are the only fragments I remember. I've googled for all the keywords mentioned above but wasn't able to figure out the movie's title. I assume it was a US movie.

I wonder if it is Patriot Games. –  Anton Jul 25 '12 at 21:32
@DForck42: Why was this question closed when the "What topics can I ask about here?" states that questions which cover "Identifying a Movie or TV series" are allowed? I don't understand what "too localized" means or what would be required so the question was valid/allowed/acceptable for Movies StackExchange. –  Lernkurve Aug 20 '13 at 14:11
Probably because the user hasn't signed in in over 4-months, therefore this question is essentially abandoned. Not to mention there are rules concerning how long Identify-* questions can be open for before they are closed. –  TylerShads Dec 13 '13 at 14:37
@JohnSmithOptional - I suggest that rather than just commenting about 'pedantry murdering this site' you open one or more meta questions relating to the scope of the site. Personally I have a more permissive attitude to questions than some of the other mods or users - but the scope of the site - including closing unanswered identify this-questions wasn't just arbitary - it was decided by the community through discussions on meta. Some people here don't actually want such questions - they think they reduce the quality of the site. –  iandotkelly Dec 13 '13 at 14:38
@Lernkurve, I wouldn't worry about 'reducing the quality of the site', your question is perfectly appropriate. It was just closed because it was mistakenly considered abandoned, and there is a 14-day-no-correct-answer closure rule, which I have disputed on meta. Your question is a good contribution to the site, don't be disheartened... –  John Smith Optional Dec 14 '13 at 11:39

Thanks for the suggestion, but it wasn't Jennifer 8. –  Lernkurve Oct 10 '12 at 21:08

All these scenes take place in the movie ERASER.
