I am trying to figure out this movie I watched when I was a kid and I'm pretty sure it is from the 80s, kind of spooked me. All I can remember is they go the closet and open the hangers of clothes and through the closet is a "portal" into another dimension. There was an ugly half man with goat sorry to be brief but this is all I remember and was "scarred" by. :-) However I feel it should be distinctive enough... Hopefully! :) Thanks!

PS This was not a cartoon.

Any answers appreciated and sorry for the delayed edit. :)

Thanks for the extra info (this not being a cartoon). Adjusted my answer accordingly. – Walt Jul 20 '14 at 19:46
Was the closet under a stairway? The one i remember was also a cartoon. I would love to see images of it. So that i can prove it's not a figment of my imagination. Im also looking for a french film, silent or or nearly so, where there were several kids runnng about town wearing monotone sweat suits. – user14052 Oct 2 '14 at 23:06
I think I'm looking for the same movie. In the movie I saw a guy is running from something or someone and he goes through a door and ends up in a room where there are people or monsters playing cards or something the guy sits with them and there is a segment where there is this old man who transforms into some kind of devil or goat legged man. I remember he's on a latter changing a lightbulb and when he comes down from the latter you see his goat legs. – user16894 Jan 4 '15 at 11:19

Could be The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe where 4 kids enter a wardrobe and wind up in the magical land of Narnia; one of them (Lucy) first meets a faun (half man, half goat) called Tumnus. Judging by the year, you probably mean the live-action 1988 UK version.

Here's Lucy meeting the faun from that version (around 0:40):

Interestingly it does seem like it could be the 1988 version of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Although when I looked at the footage it did not seem to be familiar, however who knows how much my memory altered and let the concepts grow over the years. Thanks for the quick response! What an awesome site!!!!! – IrateHateCore Jul 20 '14 at 19:52
As I remember it was a movie not a TV series, was there maybe a 90s movie similar? – IrateHateCore Jul 20 '14 at 20:02
Doesn't seem to be one in the adaptations that are specified here. There's the 2005 movie, of course, but that's way off. – Walt Jul 20 '14 at 20:06
@IrateHateCore I remember seeing this back-to-back on BBC at Christmas several times, that would certainly make it feel like a movie as there's no ad breaks on the BBC. – Crow T Robot Jul 20 '14 at 21:19

if you didn't find the movie yet, i kinda feel like you are looking for "House (1986)" series...check out the clip too. Thank you :)

please google it..."HOUSE(1986)" movie. – Akhi1 Oct 3 '14 at 17:29
I could use Google, if I were that interested. I'm questioning the usefulness of adding a link to a youtube most won't be able to view. That failed delivery is of more interest to me. – wbogacz Oct 3 '14 at 17:33
can you check the link again? i did update them :) – Akhi1 Oct 3 '14 at 17:47
Can you include some more information about the match? Answers to 'identify this' questions should typically include the points of the film which match the given description. – Crow T Robot Oct 4 '14 at 5:50

Possibly "time bandits"? (1981)

Welcome to Movies.SE ... we really appreciate the answer, but if you could flesh it out some with why you believe this is the answer, it will go a long way. – Pᴀᴜʟsᴛᴇʀ2 Feb 23 '15 at 23:20
Certainly mention of a portal in a closet leading to another world reminded me of "Time Bandits". But I don't remember a goat-legged man. There is a bull-headed man, though. – Gerald Edgar Apr 19 '15 at 13:23
