I am trying to identify a martial arts movie that I saw years ago. The hero gets into a fight with several bad guys, is defeated and one of his arms is cut off in the fight. Later he plunges his remaining hand into a jar of some potion to make his fist impossible to beat. Does anyone know this one?

How old was it? Could it have been a Jackie Chan movie or a Bruce Lee movie? – DustinDavis May 21 '14 at 1:05
Perhaps The Man with the Iron Fists? ( – GµårÐïåñ May 21 '14 at 1:13
Several of the Shaw brothers films and the early 70's kung fu genre featured this. Crippled Avengers, the One Armed Boxer, New One Armed Swordsman, etc etc. A few more details would help. – JohnP May 21 '14 at 1:44
This movie is at least 20 years old. The hero does not fight with a sword. He uses his single hard hand. – Karl May 21 '14 at 3:14
It does sound like the One Armed Boxer. JohnP, would you like to put it up as the answer? – Walt May 21 '14 at 7:30

Just so this question doesn't go unanswered: As JohnP mentioned, One Armed Boxer from 1971 might fit your description. The hero loses his arm in a fight, then plunges his other fist into fire and then into a special potion to make it invincible. The entire movie is available here on Youtube; The vase containing the herbal remedy appears around minute 56 and his fist is dipped in 59:30.
