A moon pool is a chamber, e.g. on an underwater habitat or a submarine, that allows access to the water. I am trying to think of a movie that features one.

I remember reading about one in the Michael Crichton book Sphere, but I don't recall seeing the movie.

I know of The Abyss (1989), but I also don't think that's the movie I'm thinking of.

It may have been a James Bond movie, or a movie about Navy SEALs/special forces. I am pretty sure the moon pool was part of a submarine, but it may have been a surface ship. The movie was most likely released after 1980.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what movie I am thinking of?

This sounds very much like a list question, which is off-topic here - see – Andrew Martin Apr 17 '14 at 11:45
Edited, hopefully that's better. – Blahman Apr 17 '14 at 11:50
Can you give any more information at all? Approximate location? Any memorable scenes other than this? General plot? Right now, the only way to answer this is to provide a list, which is off topic. Any extra you can provide would be appreciated. – Andrew Martin Apr 17 '14 at 12:16
This is absolutely not enough to go by. There are plenty of movies having such a thing. From the top of my head Deep Blue Sea comes to mind (especially Sam Jackson's memorable "exit"). And when thinking about Bond movies after '80, there's License to Kill featuring a moon pool on Krest's yacht. – Napoleon Wilson Apr 17 '14 at 12:22
Yep Licence to Kill is the one I was thinking of. If you put that as an answer I'll accept it. – Blahman Apr 17 '14 at 16:01

For a James Bond movie, you may be thinking of License to Kill (1989), where a ship has a moon pool that is accessed several times via submarine. It can be seen multiple times throughout the movie, notably in an expansive death scene.

Sounds like Seaquest DSV, fairly sure they had this in the submarine. Although this was a TV series, not a film.

There was also one in "Deep Blue Sea" (with Samuel L. Jackson and intelligent sharks).
