A friend told me she saw a movie years ago with Tantra as the major theme, specifically with significant sexuality aspects. This is a somewhat obscure religion. Think there are not very many movies total made with Tantra as a theme. It may have involved a female teacher and a male student (or vice versa), and possibly a trip to India by a foreigner. It was not a documentary, it was a dramatic movie. Looking for this movie or others like it.

looking for leading movies (eg "major motion pictures") with Tantra as a theme...?

One of the American Pie movies (part 2 i think) had Tantra as part of one of the characters story line. Probably not what you're thinking of though. – DustinDavis Mar 11 '14 at 18:32
tagged this identify-this-movie but am looking for the specific movie & also others. yes not looking for tantra merely as a subplot of the movie, its the main or major theme. the specific movie may have been released around the turn of the century. the specific movie may have some similarity to this book Tantric quest: an encounter with absolute love by Odier. (told friend about plot of this book & she said it reminded her of a similar movie.) – vzn Mar 11 '14 at 18:40
The "& also others"-part is off-topic anyway, since it is basically a recommendation list. But the identify-this-movie-part is on-topic, so I would suggest to limit the question to that alone. – Napoleon Wilson Mar 11 '14 at 18:50
@vzn Even without subjective recommendation, list questions asking for any kind of movie about a particular topic are considered off-topic as they don't have a clear answer. But I also see that this isn't adressed as clearly in the help section as it should be (apart from "Opinions about or recommendations for a movie or TV show" in the off-topic section), that is a deficit that urges to be adressed in meta. Feel free to keep the question as is (fortunately the ID-aspect currently prevails anyway) until I have found a bit clearer evidence. – Napoleon Wilson Mar 11 '14 at 22:13
What is 'tantra'? – poepje Mar 24 '14 at 23:56

I've seen this and it does have elements of tantra in it, not sure if it's the one you are after?

Don't Look Down (2008) "No mires para abajo" (original title)

Coming of age. In Buenos Aires, Eloy is on the verge of manhood. He studies physics, helps with the family headstone business, and does advertising - handing out flyers while walking on stilts or wearing an empanada costume. When his melancholy father dies, Eloy imagines that his father visits him at night; the explanation is more pedestrian - Eloy has started sleepwalking. Things change abruptly: while sleepwalking, he falls through an open skylight into the bed of Elvira, a young woman from Barcelona visiting her grandmother. Elvira invites Eloy to become her lover and teaches him Tantric sex.
