Which movie has this famous Nietzsche quote: "And when you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."

I remember watching it, can't remember which movie. It's driving me crazy.

It's not "The Order (2003)", not "The Abyss (1989)", it's not animation or tv show.

EDIT: I believe it was narrator but can't be sure. Definitely not in writing on screen.

You've explicitly said it's not a TV show so I'm adding this as a comment rather than an answer. However I believe it's quoted in S1E2 of Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda –  Liath May 8 '13 at 15:55

Does the quotation appear on screen, or is it spoken by a character or narrator? –  FredH May 8 '13 at 17:30

@ErenGüven google search by imdb found that quote in "Alternate versions" of Abyss. Haven't seen the movie, though –  default locale May 8 '13 at 18:07

As this quote is used in multiple films there is no way to definitively identify the movie without additional details. What is the genre, is it live action/animated/cgi, what is the setting, are there any characters or memorable scenes, etc, etc... –  A Pale Shadow May 13 '13 at 10:15

I think you are referring to a quote by Nietzsche. "And when you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you"

It is in a lot of movies, and I am sure you could find it in lots of online forums but I think you are thinking of "I saw the devil".

Also Wall Street apparently –  user1398593 May 22 '13 at 18:10

It's not exactly the same quote, but near the end of Wall Street, the character Lou Mannheim says to Bud Fox:

Man looks in the abyss, there's nothing staring back at him. At that moment, man finds his character. And that is what keeps him out of the abyss.

A google search for "when you gaze long enough into the abyss site:imdb.com" returns thousands of results. Mostly they're for TV series: Firefly, Batman.

Most likely contender is Watchmen

I was aware of Watchmen but the related stuff is not in the movie. I have checked subtitles for Christian Bale Batman movies' subtitles, did not find any match (although I have to admit, a Michael Cain narration really fits the quote :)) –  Eren Güven May 10 '13 at 17:49

Maybe it was in the introduction of the movie, "The Grey Zone"
