I really hope I am not losing my mind.

I swear there was an Indiana Jones movie in which the planets align and cause something mystical to happen, but I can't for the life of me remember which one it is.

Perhaps it is not Indiana Jones, but another fantasy-adventure movie?

I've been looking for years for this thinking I was crazy as well! Not tomb raider or crystal skull if it's same one I'm thinking of... gotta check the MacGyver ones out now. It was a late 80s mid 90s time frame. Thanks! – user30032 Jan 18 at 1:37

@user30032 are you and corsiKa the same user? Then you might need to request account merge. – Ankit Sharma Jan 18 at 5:12

@AnkitSharma I promise you we're not. I'm not even sure given the comment why you'd suspect so, but clearly you've never seen me in TL to know I wouldn't log in anonymously ;-) – corsiKa Jan 18 at 16:24

@corsiKa sorry to bother you then, i am not much frequent over TL this days too. Anyways that user's answer/now comment was bit confusing due to wording to me. – Ankit Sharma Jan 18 at 16:48

Further to my comment - I believe the movie you are thinking of is indeed Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, as it fits perfectly into the fantasy/adventure/mystical genre of the Indy films.

From the synopsis:

The planets of the solar system are going into planetary alignment (Which occurs every 5,000 years), and a secret society called the Illuminati is seeking an ancient talisman that gives its possessor the ability to control time.

+1 Was my first thought, too, especially for the Indy-similarity. – Napoleon Wilson Jan 24 '12 at 2:44

This does not occur in any Indiana Jones movie. The only movie I can think of off the top of my head in which this does occur is "The Dark Crystal," but I'm sure there must be more.

Yep - the Dark Crystal and, to some extent, Pitch Black and Tomb Raider. – Nobby Jan 24 '12 at 1:15

Tomb Raider is a likely bet, simply due to subject matter. – Adele C Jan 24 '12 at 14:57

That would be MacGyver: Lost Treasure of Atlantis, a very Indiana Jones-esque full length MacGyver movie.

Wow, there is a MacGyver movie? Always loved MacGyver but never heard of this. I guess it didn't make its way to Germany. Well, it seems I got a DVD to find! – Napoleon Wilson Jan 24 '12 at 14:08

There are actually two of them, they were made after the regular tv seasons. But this one is the best of the two in my opinion. Just don't take it too seriously ;) – UncleZeiv Jan 24 '12 at 15:19

You should never take MacGyver too seriously, and neither Indiana Jones ;) – Napoleon Wilson Jan 24 '12 at 15:44

You may be thinking about Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. The ending according to Wikipedia:

The skeletons grant her request and psychically transfer their collective knowledge into her mind, activating a portal to another dimension. Indiana, Marion, Mutt and the now-sane Oxley escape the temple, but Mac and the other Soviets are sucked into the portal. The skeletons, meanwhile, combine to form a single living interdimensional being which overwhelms Spalko, causing her to disintegrate; her scattered essence is then drawn into the portal.

Tomb Raider is the movie where 7 planets align, and when the item everyone is looking for will allow them to 'control time'.
