My mother asked me to help her identify a movie she would like to rewatch. Her memory of it is sketchy at best though.

The movie was released sometime in the 60s, it was in color and it was probably British production.

She recalls a man going through a forest following some feeling. The man encounters a fence with various warnings, passes that fence and finds something resembling a huge spider egg. That egg is emitting some waves that cause anxiety.

Edit: additional details:

Lengthy sentences of going through the forest, the man is visibly lost, but drawn (by a feeling) in certain direction. It lasts for quite a while - nothing an action-packed series could afford, definitely a style of full movie. No catchy "action" music, mostly just rustling of leaves. Dry underbrush, fallen leaves - early spring or late fall. Later, upon finding the fence, he sneaks along the fence trying to spot whatever's inside for quite a while until he finds a spot with a view to the inside. The orb structure is a huge sphere - there are other buildings around it, and they are small by comparison.

I'm not quite sure if it's 60's - the clothes of the protagonists are "fashionable" 60's clothing - slightly too short, slim trousers, a kind of hip suit.

This could be The Strange World of Planet X from 1958.

From the IMDb synopsis:

At a small, rural British lab, monomaniac Dr. Laird and his staff create ultra-intense magnetic fields. Inexplicably, the apparatus seems to be affecting distant objects, and to be drawing "extra power" from...somewhere. One night, after a "freak" storm, strange and deadly things start happening in Bryerly Woods, and a strange man from "a long way off" appears in the district...concerned about Laird's pulling down disaster from the skies.

Unfortunately, definitely not. No lengthy forest walk sequences, especially that the movie you suggested uses tiny, fake, studio-made forest. – SF. Mar 11 '13 at 8:28

This sounds exactly like the 60s British TV series The Prisoner. It's about a man who is imprisoned on an island. Here is a video that shows the main character (Patrick McGoohan) trying to escape, in this example across water rather than a forest.

I haven't seen the series but I believe the white "orb" appears in other episodes, so it's likely the scene you described appears at some point in the series.

The Prisoner was a TV show though, rather than a movie – user1887 Feb 25 '13 at 18:34
I'm aware of that! :) This is something from 50 years ago, perhaps they thought it was a movie but were mistaken. – DisgruntledGoat Feb 25 '13 at 23:06
Unfortunately, that's not it. – SF. Mar 8 '13 at 21:25
